until now ive been using Zoundry to put technorati tags in my posts. But with my pod-casting and all, its just too much of a hassle to make an entry, only to have to edit it to enter the podcast stuff.

so now i am trying out Luke's solution, which is a greasemonkey script. so we will see how this works.

Potential problems with my blog and IE

After telling Joff to listen to my podcast, he told me that my blog wasn't laoding correctly. beign that he is n00b, i checked my blog in IE, and sure enough my sidebar loads above my blog content.

After fixing the layout, i didn't do much except reverse the problem. I have no idea what the problem is, so can someone help me on this. Anyways, people should be using FireFox to begin with. n00bs.

I really want to start taking HDR (High Dynamic Range) pictures. Basically you take the same pictrure 3 or more times, and throw them in a program, that takes all the colors and lights and combines them into 1 image, creating a picture with more realistic color than a single exposrue shot. the results are really gorgeous.

Podcasting website, Odeo has launched a great new service with which website owners (such as myself) can have visitors leave them voicemail with their computer, for free. no registration required! Sooo of course i signed up for it lol.

But what i didn't realize is that Odeo makes it so friggin easy to podcast, how can i say no? I can't. They even let you do it over the phone for free! How friggin sweet is that??? in concept yes. but a recording over the phone might turn out really poopy, so we will see how it turns out. But when it comes to free stuff like this, i can't help but try it out.

So, drop me a voicemail so i can test it out, and look for the up-coming "Matthew McCullough's Podcast". Leave me some ideas for a cool show. not just an audio blog lol.

Galbadia Hotel + Mobie17 = Crazy Delicious

You may remember me blogging about a website called mobile 17, where you can send your own songs to your phone and use the as ringtones. And you may remember one of my recent entrys about Galbadia Hotel, a website with nearly every song from every video game ever. and i think you know where this is going.

The problem with real song ringtones, is that cell phone speakers aren't meant to produce high quality music. Though i am suprised with the quality of my Razr's speakers, its still some what muffled at points. Sooo, if you figure, low-bit music would sound a whole lot more clearer on cell phone speakers, and pretty much any game from SNES, NES, Genisis, and so forth has music low-bit enough to sound really great on a cell phone ringone.

My new inbox ringtone is the bicycle music from Pokemon on the Game Boy. But i am very tempted to make another one from starfox or streetfighter or something. but i am very pleased with the cobination of both websites.

I am currently trying out something called Plaxo.

Basically, in a perfect world, E-Mail would be a 2-way street. when you have some ones info, they have yours. and when they update theirs, your address book changes. But this is not the case, and infact it can never be really, due to E-Mails universal architecture. But Plaxo hopes to change all that. by making an account, you can link to your friends, get all of their info, share your own, and everyone stays in the loop of changes. Finally!!!

Now i just need to pressure everyone i know into making an account lmao. I sent out like 23 automated emails to people whos emails i had. lol, so don't be alarmed. and please don't dismiss it as spam, this is a really great service that will make everyones life easier. so Join up Today, and add me!

Galbadia Hotel is a great website, with nearly every soundtrack from every video game ever in MP3 format. And in not even exagerating, because i downloaded the Ragnarok Online Remix CD just today. also, it has a rewards refferal program to reward people for talking about the site (hint hint). the rewards range from a day, to a month of mass downloading albums. can you say SWEET?!? so hit up my refferal link so i can download way too much music.

A meditation on the current state of music

No, this isn't an RIAA bashing or whatever. This is about the music itself. Notes, instraments, and vocals.

It seems kids today have lost sight of what makes good music good. Instead, I seem to see kids likeing the most un-known bands, despite their actual ability as a band. Example, Hot Topic. Some kids i know could spend a paycheck on graphic tee's of bands that are the latest and greatest. Hell, i won't even pretend to know all the bands up on that wall. But i REFUSE to buy band merch, unless i genuinely think that that band in particular produces a great sound on the majority of their tracks.

Classic Example: Blood Brothers. This band is not good. There is no debate on this issue. their tracks have no tempo, no beat, nothing that sounds pleasent to the ear. Blood Blothers is a scream / whine fest set to epilectic drumming and shotty guitars. SO, WHY are people wearing their merch? to say, i've heard of these guys, and you haven't? thats not a good reason to like a band, because you can brag about the fact that you heard them first.

That isn't to say that you shouldn't like brand new bands. I listen to new bands when ever i can. Some of them i like, and some of them i can't even decipher the vocals coming out of the singers mouth (scream / shouting). How are you supposed to go to a show like that and sing along? again this isn't to say i dont like these bands. there are plenty of bands with bad vocals, and great insramentals. But since when did the job of a lead SINGER not require you to sing well?

For me, my favorite bands can not only play well, but have a singer/singers that can actually sing, and don't make you clutch your throat when you listen to them. And this is the way it should be. A band is comprised of three factors. 1) the original songs . 2) the people who play these songs. 3) the people who sing these songs. If you can't have all 3, or even 2 at the least, then what do you have? Garbage (not the band, the stuff you throw away).

So in conclusion, kids are bragging about going to shows every night of the week, for the latest and greatest bands. But are they any good? Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. But if you know that a band in particular isn't any good, why would you continue to broadcast your fandom? just so you can 1up everyone on who's the newest on the scene? if you ask me, that's the wrong reason to be a fan.

New 30Boxes Features today!

Have I mentioned that Love 30Boxes? todays update adds 3 features i have been waiting for for a while now. and a 4th one which is kind of existential but still an improvement. from their blog:

After taking a little break, we've been back in action. Lots of bugs fixed and little improvements (almost all based on your excellent suggestions in the forum). And some long awaited, frequently requested features:
Biweekly repeating events. Entries such as "deposit paycheck every other friday" or "deposit paycheck 3/7 repeat biweekly" work from the One Box, or you can use the edit form to change any existing events.
Omit certain occurrences from repeating events. In the edit view, you can specify certain dates to be ommitted (skipped).
If you have a birthday event (just make sure the word "bday" or "birthday" is somewhere in the event summary), put the person's birth YEAR in the notes (something like "born in 1972″). We'll calculate and show you their age when you're looking at that event.
You can now select the maximum number of events shown per day on the main calendar. It was fixed at four, but many people wanted to see more. Go to your account and click on the "Advanced" tab to change it. Increasing the number takes more space of course, so this is most useful for those with big monitors.
If you see anything wrong, please let us know in the forum.

I came across this site yesterday called Feedblendr. Basically you can throw whatever RSS feeds into there you want, and blend them up into one tastey package. No registration required, Just input and go.

So, of course i made a tastey feedblendr dish. 6 feeds in one. all of my feeds, minus Halo 2 and music. I figured the feed would be big enough as it was, and that Halo 2 and music would just overload it way too much.

I do have a few conserns. Since this is done on a non-registration basis, there is no management of this new feed whatsoever. so if a 7th feed comes along that i would want to add to it, i would have to make an entirely new feed, and anyone who subsribed to it would have to re-subscribe. which nobody likes to do. It would have been nicer if they implemented an account and registration system. then you could add feeds to the mix as time goes on.

So, while I am hesitant to say that you should use the "super feed" as the one-stop-shop for all things Me, It's there for you to do whatever you want with.

The Big Haircut

Well today was the big day. My first haircut in over 6 months. The last haircut can be traced back to this xanga entry over the summer. as you can see, its become somewhat of a tradition to take before and after pictures, because my haircuts have become fewer and far between.

Today however, instead of heading to supercuts like i usually do, Bern booked an appointment to her usual salon in town. I felt kind of out of place at first, but i think the results were worth it.

If you are a student here at MSU, you probably got the email Stacia sent out yesterday about the lab being closed between 2pm and 7pm because its getting moved to University Hall.

Yeah, well guess who did that whole "MOVING AN ENTIRE COMPUTER LAB" thing? OIT.

I spent my whole friday down in those dusty pod tables, and lugging around IBM think centers. then, i accidently hit the emergency button in the elevator of the Student Center annex because the cart we were moving had to go in sideways. That was fun too.

Overall i don't think this was very well thought out. The new lab is out of the way for students, in a smaller room, and in a building that still isn't fully operational. Meaning students that want to use it while its closed on the weekends, have to get their ID's checked by security guards, and escorted up the elevator to the 5th floor.

Perhaps in the long run it wont seem so bad, but honestly, there was nothing wrong with the SC lab whenre it was, in my opinion.

Head Automatica f/ Morningwood and We are the Fury @ Starland Ballroom last night was crazy.

First guy out was some rapper (rapper @ a rock show? LOL) yeah not well recieved by the audience. So i think he tryied to get us into it by rapping in screamo mode. yeah, even worse lol. "whats up new jersey". tired after every song. thumbs down.

Then We are the Fury was flipping awesome. definitly going to be a known band once their album is out. i enjoyed them.

Then Morningwood. Oh man. Not only did they Fucking Rock! But Chantal is HOT! she is definitly on my top 5 list (see Friends). One thing that bothered me, was the absense of the drummer. The drummer in attendance was a fat, black man with a full beard and afro. Definitly not the person in the picture.

Then Head Automatica rocked too. Though i was dissapointed that the singer felt it nessicary to re-write the lyrics as he sung. But they still were awesome. Then, during I Shot William H. Macy Elyse wanted to surf, so i got her up there, and sent her off lol.

My ears have still been ringing all day. Hopefully it'll go away while i sleep, because i have to answer phones tommorow lol

Valentines Day 2006

Well today was Valentines Day.

Bern and I celebrated by getting breakfast at the diner, and going out to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner.

We exchanged presents, well sort of. I got bern a Vermont Teddy Bear, which got shipped here and arrived at like 10:00 this morning, but when we went to go pick it up they couldn't find it amoung their mess of inventory. But Bern eventually got it when i was at work. Bern got me a condom rose, a pair of silk boxers, and Live WWE Tickets this Saturday!!! word up son.

30boxes seems to have added some new features today of all days. And I am Very pleased with the new offerings

Somethings could use some work tho. these end dates to the tasks are taking priority to other tasks during that day. it creates quite a confusing look on the public pages and in the feeds. i think that the date of the entry should take priority to when it starts and stops repeating. also, its messign up the start and stop times in the public pages and calendars.

But 30boxes seems to be very avid in updating their product. And that makes me happy

As you can see from my moblog, mother nature really dumped one on New Jersey last night. Insane.

Makes me regret leaving my camera at school. i could have goten some awesome shots this morining while it was still falling, and the streets werent plowed yet.

You might have noticed from my "My Sites" update last night, that i have started using wikipedia. yes, its a little late to be hitting the craze, but its never too late to start.

So far, i haven't really done much, except add links to my Flickr groups for both New Provicence, and Montclair State University. and i also added a speed trap for New Providence. But i intend on updateing both a bit, with my own knowledge.

Going back to school tonight should proove to be interesting.

This is sort of an update to an older post from my xanga days.

With television these days, we seem to find a niche for every possible television channel. Food network, Sports 24/7 with ESPN. Golf channel? New York Yankees Network (YES)? CNN and CNN headline news? how is that different?

But maybe the most disturbing, is when television channels gain enough popularity, that they are able to steer off course, and still maintain an audiance. the classic example of course is MTV. Music 24/7 eh? such was mtv2. and mtvU. and long gone are those day, although mtvU does maintain its credibility.

But the more recent example is Game Show network. i just finished watching a documentry (wtf?) about how someone rigged the Penssylvania lottery in 1980. I'm pretty sure that this should be on A&E or Dateline NBC or something. Game show network is supposed to showcase GAME SHOWS!

This is why i stopped watching television for the most part. just give me Tivo and some anime, and ill ge good. and mtvU of course.

Mobile 17: FREE RINGTONES!

Nick from the 3rd floor showed this to me yesterday, but i never got the chance to try it out untill now. Mobile 17 is a service that will send your music files to your phone, and cut them down into ringtones, and your own pictures, and turn them into graphics. and its free?? no spam?? NOTHING!

The catch is, that the free server is bogged down with requests, so your free ringtone actually takes an hour to cut and send. and for $1 you can get it instantly. but to save a buck, i can wait an hour.

Oh and my first ringtone? Drangonforce - Fury of The Storm (naturally). from 3:30 - 3:55. GODLY

Electric Sheep: What does my computer dream about?

A few words to describe Electric sheep. Cross platform. Open source. Distributed computing. Screen saver?!?!?!

Yes, electric sheep is an enigma of sorts. but somehow, its a screen saver, that everyone using it can see. and depending on how you vote on the screen saver (Up or down arrows) the screen saver will change to everyones liking. Wow.

Of course it runs on those complex, visualization type Algorithms, and Fractals and all that fun math type stuff. But merging them, and evolving them as the screen saver goes on. Frickin sweet.

I just downloaded it, so im just playing around to see what sheeps i get. check it out.

Well i think I've finally finished tearing my Blog a new one. LOL

I appologise for the massive spam, but I am very happy with the results. What i've done is create a Help / Detailed / WTFisthis?? Page for most of the sections on my sidebar. and after slashing and editing the contents, and shifting them around, the result is a lighter, barebones sidebar, without losing the bells and whistles.

Gripes with my blog

Well yesterday, my zoundry stoped working. zoundry was the program i have been using to post to blogger, and automatically insert Technorati tags, and ping websites. but now that it has stopped working, it's goten me thinking.

After moving all of my services online, I've been able to take my email, feeds, and calendar with me wherever i go. so why leave posting to my blog at home?

Since zoundry has stopped working, ive been inserting tags manually, and letting technorati pick it up on its own. but I'd like to find an easier way.

Basically im looking for some way to insert technoarti tags into my posts, with a mobile solution. some kind of website or service that will do this, until blogger does the SMART THING, and implements native tagging.

Also, i've begun to loathe myself for letting my sidebar get out of hand. And i have the solution, and its only a matter of time until i get around to fixing it. so expect that later when i have the time. a cleaner, crisper sidebar.

30 boxes

In case you haven't heard already, 30boxes is a new online calendar program. which is kind of a basic function. but 30boxes goes alot further. such as monitering your flickr, rss feeds, even weather forcasts, and re-mapping them to your calendar.

Also, 30boxes is supposed to have networkign features, but i can't try those out yet, because i dont have any 30boxes friends yet, as the service just went live beta yesterday lol.

so far i am Very excited, as you can see ive but a badge on my blog already, under the feeds section. there are a few things though, that i think they can imporove on.

Putting in my classes was a pain in the ass. the re-occuring events should be given more control, such as when they occur, and between which dates they occur.

But so far that seems to be my only gripe. i think that they can do Alot with this, so it looks like 30boxes is off to a great start. you can check out my account here.

My New Obsession: Second Life

I've heard a few people talk about this. and it looked kind of interesting. so last night i made my free account and downloaded the client. and WOW!

Second Life is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. An alternate world online that mirrors reality. except in this reality you can create pretty much ANYTHING and sell them for virtual cash. You can own land and create your own house, shop, play ground. whatever you want. you can dissobey the laws of physics, and fly, or create objects that float in Mid-air.

Simply put, Think The Sims Online. except you are free to do whatever you want, make whatever you want, look how ever you want. and you can fly. and drive a hot air balloon. Really, its complete freedom in a reality simulator online in 3D. and i am completely addicted.

A little warning, the client is kind of big, and the graphics are mid end in my opinion. and on top of that its a constantly active online world, so don't be suprised if its on the slow side. luckily lag is local to your area, so you dont feel the whole server at all times.

As you may have noticed I've gotten into the habbit of blogging other peoples pictures on Flickr lately. so to answer your question, no i didnt take those pictures lol. just look underneith, at who originally uploaded it.

Anyways, I have really fallen in love with Flickr. you never run out of things to do! it truely is a visual playground. Flickr gets a 5 out of 5 in my book. if you havent already, go and make an account. even if its free, a flickr account gives you so much to do.

One of the features with Bloglines that I discvered last night is Blog Clips.

When i read through my aggregations, i have a button on the bottom of every entry, for adding it to my clips. When i add clips, the are visible on this site Here. and availiable as a feed in the my feed Section.

Think of it like Digg, only for anything that has a feed.

Goodbye RssOwl: Hello Bloglines

Some of you may have noticed a sudden spike in subcribers. That is because i have been experamenting with online feed aggregators. and after a few tests, i have come to my conclusion

Bloglines! for several reasons

LightWeight desktop tool. Bloglines Notifier lets me know when i have need items, without me having to keep a browser window open
Take your feeds with you. Now i can read my news no matter where i am. so now when i get bored at work, i have somethign to read
Blogrolling. Now my blog will list the feeds i am reading. so now you can discover for yourself what i read.

So, those spikes should go away within a day or so. and Bloglines will be what i use from now on instead of RssOwl.

I'm still having some issues, like blogroll links linking back to my blog. And it says my own feed doesnt exist??? but otherwise i am very happy. if anyone knows how to help with it I'd appreciate it. otherwise ill just fiddle around with it till something happens.

Well, as you might remember, a while ago i was falling in love with Flickr (and still am). and in my search for an MSU group, i found nothing. so natrually i took the liberty of starting such a group. it made sense, because Montclair has so much opportunity for great pictures, and i belive its only a matter of time before the pool is filled with great shots.

But, another trendy geek site that ive been loving lately, Last.fm, was also without a Montclair State University group. so once again i have taken the libery. Well the spring semester has begun. And so far it isn't that bad. but really, things havent even got settled.

Really the first day of classes are intros. Like the first 30 seconds of a CD. so far they dont seem that bad, but ive only had 2 so far. the first day of classes was tuesday, which i have off this semester. so really ive only had 2 of my classes for wednesday, Religion and Calculus. Normally i would also have Comp Sci in an hour and a half but the professor (The Dept. Head) is in hawaii this week.

And on top of that, I have a job interview scheduled for tommorow morning. With the OIT help desk here on campus. And rumor has it, that the helpdesk needs all the help they can get, so i have a feeling that things are going to get alot busier than they already are.

Flickr Favorites

They say every picture is worth 1000 words. so Flickr must be worth over a billion or so in words. and with that in mind, i have begun to populate the My Favorites section on Flickr.

The pictures in our favorites will mostly be of the popular photos circulating around flickr. but in my opinion, the note worthy pictures must meet certain criteria

Photography is about captureing life as it happens. color effects and photo shopping are very interesting, but i find that a great photo with little or no touchup is alot more impressive
Knowledgable camera use. Anyone who has taken a photography class knows how to maniupulate the way light enters the camera. thats how you take night shots and day shots clearly. light manipulation shots are very interesting to me
Color. lots and lots of color. vibrant color catches the eye.

So yeah, expect the my favorites section to always have new pictures. as long as the flickr-verse keeps spinning, ill keep finding eye catching pictures.

Yeah, Its got a HEMI

Well today i wanted to go out and spen my Gift cards and return a Cd to best buy, and get store credit.

Well i got pretty much what i set out for. The Like - are you thinking what i'm thinking?, Morningwood - Morningwood, Reggie and the Full Effect - Greatest Hits '84 - '87, And Paul Oakenfold - Creamfields.

Theres still some more gift-card-age to spend, but i think i may end up spending that online.

Then we Rented The Dukes of Hazzard and watched it. good flick. BTW, even though its supposed to be hazzard county Georgia, the traffic circle scene was filmed in Lee Circle, Downtown New Orleans Louisiana. and yes, i picked that up instantly. Get it? The General Lee in Lee Circle? cute refrence.

Any ways the movie has me in the mood for driving a Dodge Charger. and listening to AC/DC. but at least i can do 1 of the 2.

As if Halo 2 wasn't addicting enough: Enter HALOader

Well, one of my favorite features about Halo 2 on Xbox Live was the fact that your stats and game reviews were available online. so that way the game isnt gone when its over.

But last night after i got off a Halo 2 Spree, i came across HALOader. basically it takes all the same info from your games like bungie.nets service, but also creates new stats, like overall kill-to-death ratio, and over all highest stats. and more data than you could ever possibly need, like your most played opponent lol.

I say, YES!

of course at the moment its only tracking whats on my feed, which is like my last 20 games or so, but i am excited to see what my stats will build up to.

Also, since i am talking about Xbox Live, ive added the official Xbox live Gamercard in my sidebar. its really for xbox 360 live games, but I have it there just so people can see i have a Gamertag.

Back from Charlotte

When Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation bought MySpace, the social-networking Web site, in July, some of its users gloomily predicted that the site would be altered to suit the company's corporate interests.
Proof for many of those people came earlier this month, when MySpace users began to notice that any references to YouTube, a video-sharing site and a competitor, were erased or blocked from appearing on My-Space. Some MySpace users also reported that when they tried to download videos from YouTube, a patch of white space appeared instead.
Ever-sensitive to corporate meddling, many MySpace users got angry. "My friends and I are trying to make the blogging community aware of a stealth censorship campaign that is being conducted by MySpace," one MySpace user, Ellis Yu, wrote to the Blog Herald, a Web site about blogs. "They are not admitting to it, and are trying to do this in secret."
Matthew McCullough, a blogger from Montclair, N.J., wrote in a Dec. 22 blog post that "if you even mention the word YouTube on your MySpace profile, it will be literally ripped out and only an empty white space will remain."
The official blog maintained by YouTube offered another explanation the next day, saying the issue was "a simple misunderstanding, and MySpace has re-enabled all YouTube embeds." A spokesman for the News Corporation did not return phone calls on Friday.
The incident underlines the peril corporations face as they buy blogs and networking sites like MySpace, which depend on the good will of their users. Mr. Murdoch paid $580 million for MySpace, a significant investment for a two-year-old Web site primarily populated by fickle teenagers and users in their 20's. Like other members of free community Web sites, MySpace users often react with indignation if they believe their content has been tampered with.
And they can always decide to leave for other networking sites. As one irate user put it in a message to MySpace members, "visit Friendster and Hi5 if you're interested in social networking sites that don't censor content and allow your YouTube video embeds." JULIE BOSMAN

Althought it might have been nice for awhile, i cant imagine what a Google OS would be like. Knowing google history with UI's it would probably be to minamalist and bug the crap out of me. oh well. it was a nice fantasy while it lasted.

The New 92.3 Free FM

Back in middle school i always used to listen to KROCK ont he radio, which was 92.3 fm out of NYC. but after a while, i noticed they played the same bad rock over and over again. which isnt to say that disturbd and nirvana are bad bands. but when it gets to the point that the songs i hear now are the same songs they played 5 years ago, then it becomes a point of annoyance.

Pretty much the only thing they had going for them was their morning show, which was of course, howard stern. but as many of you may know, he get fed up with the FCC, and has gone exclucivly to Sirius Satalitte radio. so with the same bad music, and their main feature gone, what does KROCK do? TALK RADIO!

Thats right, the New Free FM is nothing but talk radio. the same staff and same employees, which means the talk isn't about boring stuff like new tax laws or something, but about lindsy lohan getting asthma from snorting cocaine. so its entertaining talk, with out trying to be polite, with some traces of music when the dj needs to go to the bathroom or something.

BTW, to replace stern, they get David Lee Roth? Penn from Penn and teller?

Annyways, my annalysis is this. for new rock music in NYC, i used to turn to KROCK to see if i could get lucky and they wouldn't play a perfect circle. Now those days are gone, and NYC radio feels like its been stabbed in the chest.

But, as i listened last night, i realized that Free FM does have a good point. i was listening to the Jake & Jackie show and i sent in an instant feedback (under Korun of course) which they read on the air. it was something to the effect of this

For music audiances, Free FM is a great dissapointmment. But for entertaining conversation, or just something to keep you company at night that doesnt suck, Free FM has it down.

So when im driving in the middle of the day, and i want to listen too music, you can bet i will never listen to Free FM. but at night and there is nothing entertaining on TV or online, Free FM is there.
